Waiting bed plants are often used for outdoor production. The first strawberries can be picked some 60 days after planting. The size of the crown of waiting-bed plants is important: a bigger size plant contains more flower trusses and therefore gives more production. Heavy, medium or light waiting bed plants are used, depending on the cultivation purpose.
Fresh bare rooted plants are used to produce waiting bed plants. They are planted late July/early August to be lifted again in November/December. The plants are then graded into heavy, medium or light size. After this, the waiting bed plants are kept in refrigerated storage until delivery.
